The Decision Making for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (DEMSME) conference gathers professionals from universities and businesses interested in the theory and applications of decision-making research using computer science, mathematics, economics, and business management and marketing approaches in SME practice.

Decision-making processes are at the heart of doing business. However, with every potential gain comes potential risk. With forced choice comes the fear of failure. The more critical the future decision, the more difficult it is to decide which way to go. Consider the serious consequences of investing in a new product, acquiring a partner, hiring more employees, or expanding your business. Analyzing data and seeking opinions can help. Nevertheless, it can also lead to analysis paralysis. Therefore, use rational deliberation and quicker, more intuitive insights. Doing this through a process with specific steps can lead to better results. An interdisciplinary approach can also be useful.

The main goal of the conference is to support a broader discussion of the decision-making process from an interdisciplinary and interregional perspective. Each participant has a good chance to exchange experiences and get inspiration for further creative research with colleagues from different countries, universities, and different business areas.

The DEMSME 2023 conference on 18.05.2023 was also actively attended by the employees of the Department of Complex Systems: Krzysztof Smalara, M.Sc., Patryk Organiściak, M.Sc., and Paweł Kuraś, M.Sc., as well as Dominik Strzałka, Ph.D., Professor at PRz, who was a member of the Scientific Committee of the conference. During the conference, papers were presented by:

Paweł Kuraś, Krzysztof Smalara, Patryk Organiściak, Michał Ćmil and Ewa Bączek
A COMPARISON OF EXISTING RISK ANALYSIS METHODS USED IN INFORMATION SECURITY SYSTEM AUDITS AND THE POTENTIAL FOR THEIR DEVELOPMENT

Paweł Kuraś, Patryk Organiściak, Bartosz Kowal and Edyta Łukasik
USING MACHINE LEARNING TECHNIQUES TO REDUCE PAIRWISE COMPARISON MATRIX INCONSISTENCIES

Jiří Mazurek, Krzysztof Smalara and Bartosz Kowal
SOME NOTES ON THE ASSESSMENT OF INCONSISTENCY IN DECISION-MAKING BASED ON PAIRWISE COMPARISONS

The conference was attended by participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, and was an opportunity to deepen contacts that can benefit both the Department of Complex Systems and the development of our scientific discipline.
