Laboratory of operating systems

A research and teaching laboratory, in which works are carried out referring to issues related to the analysis of the phenomena occurring in computer systems and networks, in particular in the context of complex systems. The aim of this work is to learn and understand the mechanisms that affect the functioning of IT systems and networks in relation to their efficiency and reliability. Detailed research is subjected to, among others physical and logical network structures in terms of performance, functionality and security analysis. In addition, it is possible to conduct research on high-capacity transmission infrastructure and virtualization techniques in the laboratory. Equipped with high-performance computing servers and the necessary network infrastructure, it provides a high-quality test environment in the work on motion control and analysis, virtualization, performance of database environments and security and new services on the network.

The laboratory is equipped with the necessary communication infrastructure as well as computer systems and network devices. A wide range of available equipment allows for the implementation of research works, didactic classes as well as work carried out in cooperation with the industry.

Selected issues implemented in the laboratory.

  • modeling and statistical analysis of computer systems and networks;
  • study of the properties of network structures in real and simulation environments;
  • research on the impact of long-range (temporal and spatial) dependencies on the performance of computer systems;
  • research on non-extensive phenomena - research on applications of non-extensive thermodynamics elements in computer systems;
  • studies of the phenomena of self-similarity and their impact on the functioning of computer systems;
    development of expert opinions and implementation of PoC tests;
  • programming of network services in the environment of distributed communication systems;
    design, configuration and maintenance of test voice communication environments for SMEs;
  • design and configuration of data processing systems;
  • configuration of disk arrays;
  • configuration and monitoring of SAN network elements;
  • cloud computing implementation

The laboratory also serves didactics in the following subjects: "Exploitation of database systems", "Database applications", "Optimization of systems and databases", "Administration of network operating systems", "Data analysis", "Computer networks I and II", "System design and Computer Networks "," Designing and Operating Computer Networks I and II "," Network Traffic Management "," Converged Systems "," Management of Computer Systems and Networks "," Computer Aided Designing of Teleinformation Systems "," Project, Problem Studio ", certified CCNA courses, student internships, diploma theses.
