The problems of ensuring the integrity of network device configurations based on blockchain solutions is the main theme of the latest publication by the authors from Department of Complex Systems in the journal Electronics. Nowadays, computer networks constitute a key element of modern digital infrastructure, and their secure and reliable operation is largely dependent on the correctness, consistency, and accountability of network device configurations. Although traditional configuration management approaches are still widely used, they rely primarily on trust in centralized management systems, repositories, and privileged administrators, which may not guarantee complete tamper-resistance or independent verification of configuration change history. This article examines the potential of blockchain technology as a mechanism for ensuring the integrity and accountability of network device configuration changes. To address this issue, a distributed four-layer architecture is proposed, encompassing the network device layer, the configuration layer, the server layer, and the blockchain layer. In this model, configuration changes are not permanently implemented until they pass a distributed approval process involving multi-party authorization, administrator voting, and digital signatures. Approved changes are then recorded on the blockchain as immutable and cryptographically secure audit records. The proposed concept was validated in a Python-based simulation environment that reflects the distributed management of routers and switches. The results indicate that blockchain can provide more than just a simple event logging mechanism. It can strengthen the security of the configuration approval process, reduce the risk of unauthorized modifications, improve tamper resistance, and support distributed data integrity validation. The proposed approach therefore provides a promising foundation for further research on scalable, secure, and auditable configuration management in network infrastructures.
