The development of modern, breakthrough technologies for the security and defense of the state (SZAFIR) are projects aimed at building the potential of scientific institutions and enterprises in the field of security and defense of Poland. The program is implemented thanks to the cooperation of the NCBiR with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Education and Science. As part of the competition announced by the National Center for Research and Development (NCBiR), a consortium consisting of: Exatel S.A., Gas Transmission Operator Gaz-System S.A. and the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Rzeszów University of Technology received funding in the amount of nearly PLN 36 million. The main goal of the project is to create a new, breakthrough Polish technology of cybersecurity of industrial systems (OT) based on the modern network philosophy Software Defined Network (SDN) and products based on it for IT systems and prototypes of Polish network devices that will enable better, faster and more precise management ICT network resources. The solution will allow to identify a potential attack, see and understand its scope and take more effective defensive measures than currently available technologies allow. The project will build IT systems and devices based on software-defined network (SDN) technology. On behalf of the Rzeszów University of Technology, employees of the Department of Complex Systems (Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering), the Department of Avionics and Control and the Department of Machine Technology and Production Engineering (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics ) will be involved in the works. The project will be done in the period from January 2023 to December 2025, and for the activities in project tasks, the Internet of Everything testing stand operating at the Department of Complex Systems will be used.
